Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the opening ceremony of Grameen China’s branch in the Futian district in Shenzhen, China on July 27, 2019. Yunus is visiting Shenzhen as a part of the Social Business Week in China.
Loans were disbursed to 8 members of Grameen groups to finance income generating activities that included creating employment in the local community. This is the third branch under the collaboration between China Construction Bank (CCB), largest bank of China and Grameen China (GC), a replication of Grameen programme in China.
Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the launching ceremony of Futian Branch, together with He Jie, Director-General of Shenzhen Municipal Financial Regulatory Bureau, Abdul Hai Khan, Managing Director, Grameen Trust, Perry Zhongyang Peng and Wu Yuening from Boston Consultancy Group (BCG), senior officers from Grameen China’s biggest partner China Construction Bank including Zhang Weizhong, General Manager, Inclusive Financial Development Department, Li Xiaofang, Deputy General Manager, Inclusive Financial Development Department, Zhao Zhiran, Deputy Chief Mangers of Shenzhen Branch, Ma Jiyong, Deputy Chief Mangers of Shaanxi Branch, Qiu Bangkui, Deputy Chief Mangers of Henan Branch and Farid Uddin, Director of Inclusive Finance, Grameen China. Borrowers presented their six commitments which they will abide by as members of the group.
Before the branch opening ceremony there was an intensive workshop on the need for financing of the poor and government and private sector programmes avaiable in China.

Staff from the Grameen China HQ and it's Shenzhen branch, Head of CCB's regional office, two representatives from Boston Consulting Group's (BCG) Beijing office along with other local dignitaries from the civil society were present at the event.
